Straw purchases, or Guns with no Ammo?

One way to outsmart straw purchasers from getting what they want
2

It’s obvious to any gun enthusiast that a gun is only as useful as the bullets it is loaded with. What would be the point of carrying around any firearm if it didn’t have any ammunition, the lack of which diverts it from its intended purpose? There might be a subtle but significant way to exploit this point when it comes to gun violence prevention.

For example, take straw purchases, which occur when somebody who is prohibited from buying a gun himself has someone else buy it for him. This is a serious issue because the profit motive of the gun dealer, the apathy of the person who buys the gun, and the cowardice of the “straw” purchaser who can’t or won’t do it himself, all coincide.

What if all gun sales clearly involving a straw purchase were prohibited from selling ammunition? That way, the gun dealer still profits from selling the gun; the person who buys the gun is notified that he is skirting legal bounds; and the “straw” purchaser is roadblocked from possessing a gun with ammunition.
